The Darkside of WFH
By Chilly Zoretic of Scentsy
I am a wahm. Anytime I tell anyone that I work at home I get the exact same reaction "That is so Great!"; as if it is a gift. Don't get me wrong, it is a wonderful thing to work at my house instead of going into the office every day. I save at least an hour getting ready and some time not having to commute to and from work. There are many articles and blogs written about working from home, however I have found there is a downside; things to consider when taking a job or planning to work from home. 1. Focus: You must have discipline, make goals and be organized. It is very easy when you are at home to get distracted by all the other things that need to get done. Staying on top of your work to-do list during office/business hours is important. I have found keeping an organized office and a daily to-do list I am able to keep focused. 2. Attire: One of the great things about working from home - well you never leave home. Most days I am in my PJs for the full day! It helps that I take or pick up the kids from school which forces me to get ready. 3. Meals: I eat most meals at my desk. I am having coffee and breakfast while reading new email. I don't usually take lunch since conference calls are at that time. See point #2 (don't go out to lunch since I am in PJs) 4. Social: As an extrovert I receive my energy from others. That is hard to do in the home office setting. I miss grabbing a coffee with a friend, mentor or boss. The brainstorming sessions can be hard with just 4 walls. I also miss the spontaneous team lunches and office celebrations like the monthly birthday cakes! I am very blessed to be able to be able to work for a company where I have the flexibility to work at home but some days I tell myself I need to go into the office to reconnect. Maybe with the New Year I can make a new resolution.

Thank you for sharing this valuable information, Chilly. I find that without a prewritten schedule, the day passes and I don't get important things accomplished. My step-daughter gave me a page-a-day-notepad & calendar. Hopefully, this will help to keep me on track. Keep up the good work. Best wishes. Frederick
